I’m afraid of dogs, but I’m working on it. Believe it or not, I was even afraid of our kitten at first. When I figured out that, unlike my mother, dogs don’t attack for no reason, my fear took a nosedive.
Nevertheless, I have had a recurring nightmare for years. At a private party in an apartment, a huge dog sticks its muzzle against my crotch. Petrified, I don’t dare to move away or make the slightest motion for fear he’ll bite me, especially in such a vulnerable spot.
Desperate, totally helpless, I whisper to the people around me, “Please… for the love of God… get the dog away from me.”
And nobody reacts.
